The Internet Society Chennai chapter was founded in the year 2007 – 2008 with the aim of bringing together stakeholders from Civil Society, Private Sector, Government and Technical Community to form a Multi-Stakeholder group of volunteers committed to the further evolution of Internet as a Universal, free and Open eco-system for All.

It is driven by the Internet Community’s vision that “The Internet is for everyone.”

Members of Internet Society India Chennai have extensively participated in the OECD Ministerial Meeting on Internet Economy, Internet Governance Forums (IGFs) held at Hyderabad (2008), Egypt (2009), Vilnius (2010), Nairobi (2011) and Ajerbaijan (2012), organized Workshops and lead a Dynamic Coalition. Some members participate at the meetings of the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), at APNIC, at the India Internet Governance Conference, and regularly participate in important Internet Governance policy discussions online.

IPv6 Training Workshop for Network Professionals Co-organized with Asia Pacific Regional Network Information Center (APNIC)

IPv6 Seminar and a discussion on “Core Internet Values in Business” at IIT Research Park, Dr Olivier Crepin LeBlond, Chair of ICANN At Large chaired the session with Sebastien Bachollet, Member, Board of Directors of ICANN. Event Co-Organized with APNIC, and sponsored by NIXI, Internet Society, Affilias and NamesBeyond.

Internet for Business: Permissionless Innovation Talk by Olivier Crepin Le-Blond at Bharathidasan Institute of Management and Karunya University.

Online Safety for School Children at Good Shephard’s Convent, Chennai

Open and universal Internet as an opportunity for Greater Prosperity by Dr Vinton Gray Cerf in Partnership with (and entirely funded by) TiE Chennai
